Job Overview

The R&D Franchise Manager position is responsible for identifying global technology and product development opportunities for a given business area, or franchise, and managing one or more of the key programs in the franchise. This position works in close cooperation with Global Marketing Product Managers and Portfolio Managers that have responsibility for the franchise. The R&D Franchise Manager is expected to be the key clinical and technology resource for global product planning and development for the franchise. In addition, in partnership with their Marketing counterparts, they are expected to be the business managers of the franchise, with a focus on developing opportunity analyses and business cases, seek resource allocations for franchise opportunities from the Cantel business, seeking to define and improve ASP’s and gross margins for franchise products, developing and maintaining KOL relationships needed for franchise development and continuously seeking to enhance the financial health and performance of the franchise.

Main Responsibilities

Manage one or more key R&D programs that are core to the franchise product portfolio.

  • Effectively use project management skills to lead one or more multi-functional product development or technology development teams.
  • Function in a systems engineering role for product development projects that require the synthesis of multiple technical development efforts into a coordinated whole in order to achieve the desired product functionality and outcomes.

Co-business manager of the franchise, in tandem with Marketing Product Manager.

  • Know the space, direction, trends and KOL’s.
  • Monitor business parameters and technology elements essential for continued franchise viability and growth.
  • Seek resources and prioritization for franchise product and technology portfolio
  • Provide suggestions and insights for M&A and business development targets relevant for franchise growth and market share.


Technology and clinical resource for franchise product offerings and development portfolio

  • Provide technology and clinical applications knowledge and insights specific to the franchise to enable robust product development, risk analysis and value determination.
  • Develop and maintain KOL relationships that are required for design and development of franchise products and product portfolio.



  • BS degree in engineering or technical fields relevant to R&D franchise; advanced graduate degree or MBA would be preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of eight years of experience with at least four years of experience leading product development projects
  • Demonstrated medical device concept to commercialization development experience with Class II or higher (US) and IIA or higher (EU) products.
  • Familiarity with clinical data generation to establish product value for customers would be a plus.
  • Has demonstrated ability to lead and to communicate with all levels of management
  • Proven ability to drive and influence changes.
  • Must be very customer (internal and external) focused and results driven.
  • Extremely strong communication skills (oral, written, developing/giving presentations) are mandatory.
  • Must have proven business knowledge, leadership skills and process development capabilities.



  • Domestic and International travel is required up to 20% of work
