Job Overview

The Production Planner coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to daily and weekly production schedules. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; inventory levels, and solving production problems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily production requirements are achieved to meet customer expectation.
  • Coordinate and execute scheduling activities for assigned parts using ERP systems.
  • Act as a focal point and monitor assigned areas to ensure material delivery dates meet production needs.
  • Identify and coordinate advance notice, input and resolution of material shortages/overages.
  • Analyze and prepare work orders needed for production to ensure material delivery dates meet production needs
  • Coordinate with outside vendors for the manufacturing of distributed items, as well as the conversion of sourced materials
  • Contribute to the coordination between warehouses (i.e., transfers, Kanban)
  • Data analysis and decision making to support raw material supply and finished goods demand to determine and apply appropriate ordering, inventory, and replenishment policies.
  • Maintains the production schedule and other reports as required.
  • Follow-up as required with all teams to expedite flow of materials and documents to meet production schedule and customer expectation.
  • Interacts with shop floor management on a daily basis to resolve issues regarding manufacturing
  • Analyze data to determine opportunities to decrease inventory, improve customer service levels, and reduce total costs in order to support LEAN manufacturing activities.


  • College Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Three years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Three years of MRP system experience preferred
  • APICS Certification preferred
  • Understanding of ERP system and Microsoft Office products; strong computer skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines
  • Good customer service/phone skills and flexibility for handling a wide range of activities
  • Demonstrate personal time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Background in Inventory Management
