    Job Overview

    Procure materials, components, goods and services to support manufacturing and distribution operations. Request quotes and find sources of supply that meet cost, quality, and delivery objectives. Actively manage and evaluate supply chain with respect to supplier performance, look for opportunities for improvement in cost, delivery, and quality. Manage inventory balances to be in alignment with company set goals.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Responsible for procurement of materials for a medical device manufacturing and distribution environment
    • Issue purchase orders and change orders for assigned commodities, ensure that proper internal documentation (requisitions/approvals) and external documentation (specifications, drawings) are provided to supplier as needed.
    • Utilize reports to ensure adequate inventory of purchased material is maintained to meet manufacturing and distribution requirements.
    • Communicate timely and current information regarding material availability
    • Maintain open communication with support departments in resolving day to day problems
    • Source, develop, and maintain suppliers to support departmental and company Quality, Delivery, and Cost and Inventory objectives
    • Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, and utilize systems to monitor and report on supplier performance, coordinate and ensure corrective actions are taken as necessary. Buyer to act as the focal point for contact with suppliers for assigned commodities
    • Perform Request for Quotes, select existing and/or source new suppliers, negotiate price and lead-time with suppliers and maintain this information in appropriate system data bases. Negotiate Purchase Agreements
    • Analyze supply chain for ongoing improvement in cost, quality, delivery, and recommend, implement, and report on improvement activity.
    • Provide sourcing and purchasing support to new product introduction projects/teams as assigned and as they relate to commodities assigned.
    • Work with Quality Department to return discrepant materials to supplier for disposition per the Material Review Board process, and work with Receiving, Quality, and Accounts Payable in resolving any receiving issues for purchased materials.
    • Promote positive internal customer relationships through regular communication with those customers and Materials Department personnel.
    • Seek out and following through on implementing improved methods of procurement and control to further enhance the ability of personnel to provide on-time products, reduce costs, and improve production planning accuracy.
    • Develop department knowledge of business software system used to support materials and procurement processes
    • Support Materials Management Department objectives and contribute to achieving the objectives.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.


    • BA or BS degree and/or minimum three (3) years’ purchasing/materials experience in a manufacturing environment. Thorough knowledge of production planning and inventory control systems. Familiarity with ISO, FDA, and GMP requirements. APICS or ISM Certification(s) desirable.
    • Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a timely and cost effective manner
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Outstanding analytical, verbal, and written communication skills along with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization both inside and outside the company.
    • Proficient in MS Outlook and Excel. Additional MS Office Suite skills desirable.
